This year’s work shop will explore a number of techniques I've used in my 2013 new designs. Within each class description I include the name of designs which can be viewed on this site and ozeyarn.com. Visit the home page to access an online tutorial on Youtube for Mitre knitting.
Friday morning: 10am to 12.30pm: Short Row Shaping
I have been using short row shaping in my designs for quite a few years. The front edge of the Mitre Tally Ho (left) is longer than the side seam edge, achieved with short rows. The Buckingham has short rows into the center back hem. I’ve had fun with the Wave scarf and Wave wrap, which are shaped again with short rows.
Unravel the tangles of intarsia, we’ll begin with a three colour cast on edge and work vertical stripes and bobbles before we even look at a graph. Look at Bee Bee Jacket and Metro coat as examples of multi colour cast on edge. Practical elements will include joining colours and securing ends.
Today’s sample will be used in class on Sunday.
Saturday morning: 9.30am to 12.30pm: Surface Texture
This winter I have brought several variations of surface texture work to my designs. The Coley design creates surface pattern into leaf shapes, working firstly increases and then decreases.
The Buckingham has bell stitch trim into the cast on and worked as short row as well as bobbles.
Saturday afternoon 1.30pm to 4.30pm: Mitre Knitting.
Follow the design process of Mitres, as well knitting Mitres.
Garment construction with Mitres which is quite different to standard garment construction. Left Mitre Tally Ho. I have created vertical zig zags by knitting Mitres sideways across the back.
Sunday morning 10am to 1pm: Starting and finishing
How to read a garment schematic, plus how to relate the schematic to your own body measurements. Understand the simple changes you can make to patterns for better fit from sleeves to shoulders. Look at picking up stitches from the samples we have already worked, for bands and neckbands.
Finishing from pressing to ends; sewing up and tricks to tweak the fit.
This weekend knitting retreat is great fun and brings together lovers of knitting, you'll leave with new friends as well as new techniques! Plus tips and tricks for garments with great fit and therefore style.
My studio is attached to the house, so I am pretty flexible for studio visits.
If you are planning a trip to Sydney and you'd like to drop in to my Aladdin's Cave, please email or phone to make a date and time, which can be day, evening, weekday or weekend.
My Studio: Made-to-Measure at your Leisure
Sometimes when shows are really busy it can be challenging for me to fully help you with made-to-measure sizing. There are some great garden centre restaurants and cafe's on the northern beaches, so bring a friend, sister, mum or daughter and make a day of it!
