| Demonstrations, displays and sales from Australia's finest artisans |
| Below is just a small sample of the products and classes that comprise the Designer/Makers Studio talent on show, demonstrating and instructing during the Timber Show. |
    |
| Dove-tailed box from Col Hosie, who will be demonstrating dove-tailing and finger-jointing for box construction. Leather Plaiting by Owen Hartshorn. Poly Clay by Carol Heath, as well as Fused Glass work. |
|
I should call this the 'Working with Wool' show! Or Susan Skilling could call it the 'Working with Clay' show!
Dianne and Adrian Padgham will inspire and educate you to bring that old chair on the verandah back to its formal glory! Fans of Kaffe Fasset will remember a chair in one of his books upholstered in needlepoint!
In the 'Designer Makers Studio' demonstrations Susan Skilling will be throwing on her wheel. Carol Heath will demonstrate the many possibilities of Poly Clay jewellery - the same product I use for button making.
As a family event on the weekend under 14's get free entry when accompanied by an adult.
|
| Take tea while watching Susan Skilling working on her Potters' wheel. Take a lesson in 'short row shaping' from Jane at Signatur Handknits. |
    |
| Pluck a fresh water Pearl from John Hablechek. Splash glaze on hand-thrown tea set from Susan Skilling or applied decorative work on the Dragon Fly teapot. |
| I, and my fellow Designers, look forward to seeing you in Canberra..... |
| |
| Mitres for everyone - sawn or knitted... |
Left shows just what a knitted mitre or miter looks like - whilst for the boys they will be honing wood mitres at the Timber show.
My Mitre class will be held every day, where you'll unearth the techqnique that makes the stunning Coco Vee Capelet from my book Swing Swagger Drape!
Theo Haralampou will be lathe-turning on the hour, with Come, try and learn' sessions throughout the day. Check out the raw slabs of Timber from Spotted Gum, Australian Red Cedar, River Red Gum to Jarrah, Rose Wood and many more. Wet the wood and you bring out the true depth of colour - just stunning. You walk through this section to enter the exhibition building. |
| Of course there are also finished works from bowls and platters to rustic and polished desks, tables and cabinets. |
    |
| Glass and metal necklace. Spinning demonstrations from Kir Supiers along with felting and weaving. Hand plaited stock whips. Felting with poly clay clasp. |
| |
| A tall order well met: Jean's Harlequin Swagger |
Jean Dickson in the UK, sent these brilliant images of the Harlequin Swagger from my book - Swing, Swagger, Drape.
I hope to meet Jean when I hold classes in the UK in October. Jean knitted this one for herself, her friend Penny Rowling is a professional photographer and Jean looks like she enjoys having her photograph taken!
Jean is 6 ft tall and had to subsquently add length to the sleeves. She has so fallen for the Mitres she is now knitting a second Harleqin for a friend! |
|
Jane will be teaching Mitre knitting (as used in the Harlequin Swagger above)
Fri 3pm, Sat 10am and Sun 1pm - at Designer/Makers Studio during the Canberra Timber Show: please book for these classes so seats can be reserved!

| Thanks for your comments at Southbank... |
The Quilt Fair at Southbank was wonderful: lots and lots of my garments being worn by you! Great to see all the colour combinations - and such great knitting!
When I travel I knit in airports and it's like I have the friendly 'talk to me' flag out! Catherine in Melbourne shared her story with me, having returned from a trip to the USA where she was traveling alone for the first time.
"I wanted a beautiful handknit, and I knew people would talk to me if I was knitting. It worked and I had a wonderful holiday"
Another lady shared her traveling knitting story too.
"I knit wherever I go and people smile as they pass in airports and talk to me on trains, I have a great time on my travels' |
